Chef Laura is the founder of INDULGE Gourmet, a personal chef and catering business that opened in 2008. Now also the owner of My Healing Chef, she is helping people improve the quality of their life through the powerful movement of “healing with food.”
“When my best friend’s mom got cancer and then learning about when our babysitter had leukemia, I discovered that no one was talking to them about their diet from diagnosis and through treatment. I knew enough that there had been research about diet affecting one’s treatment and recovery. I went to work and was inspired by books I read including ‘Anticancer’ and ‘The Cancer Fighting Kitchen.’ I knew there was a need to educate and help people in my community. I learned that so many regular foods can have cancer fighting properties and either help treatments be more effective or help kill cancer cells. That was when I found this new mission. I’m a foodie at heart, I knew I could create great tasting meals incorporating these needed anti-inflammatory ingredients.”
As I started to build a new business, with two young boys at home, then 2 and 4, and still take care of all my existing clients from INDULGE Gourmet, I struggled to find the time to do it all. I helped many people, including a neighbor that was able to get off of her diabetes medication, feel better with a healthy and anti-inflammatory diet. But I wanted to do more and make my talents accessible for everyone, not just the few that could afford a personal chef.
So in 2019 I took the healthy bowls I had been making for my clients and streamlined them so they could be available and affordable for everyone. I introduced my BeneFIT bowls. Seven types of healthy, flavorful, and filling food bowls packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients, protein and fiber with no preservatives.
